BARDENS BOUDOIR PROUDLY PRESENTS:
STOKEY ROCKS VOL 6
THE WASHINGTON RAYS
-For years the Washington Rays have proved to be one of the most influential and creative bands in and around Stoke Newington. The Rays prolific songwriting gives them a catalogue of over 100 songs, each painting a different story, and each taking the band into a different dimension. But they still think that this is only the beginning, never convinced that 'this is the one', as they continue their quest to write their best song ever.
SLIM'S CYDER CO
Having won the NME's Champion Blockhead competition in 1978, Slim got to know Ian Dury and the Blockheads. On discovering that he could play, they invited him to play Hammond Organ on the track Blockheads at the last night of their tour at Gants Hill Odeon. Slim did the same at the Concerts for Kampuchea at Hammersmith Odeon, where the Clash were supporting. Slim then went out on the Clash 16 Tons tour, and met Joe Ely who was supporting. In 1981, Slim served a 6 month apprenticeship with the Wreckless Eric Band on Vox Continental. In 1982, he joined Roddy Radiation and the Tearjerkers on piano and accordion. In 1983? he also started playing with the Ruff-House All-stars, featuring Nigel and Mark from the Meteors, and Bal from the Stingrays. In 1984, he joined The Boothill Foot-Tappers and The Blubbery Hellbellieson Accordion, and also played with the Skiff Skats, and the busking band, The Spartans. Around this time Slim also recorded "Power in a Union" with Billy Bragg under the name "Duck Bill Patterson and the Pattersons", which is on Billy's new CD Box-set. The dates after this are guesses and estimates as it all got a bit complicated! In 1986 he joined the Forest Hill Billies and also played with the Potato 5 - both Ska bands, on Accordion. In 1987 he played piano for Howlin' Wilf and the Vee-Jays (now James Hunter) In 1988 he played piano for Big Joe Louis and his Blues Kings. In 1989? he formed the Cuspidors with Little Paul, the harmonica player. When Little Paul left, this evolved into Slim's Cyder Co.(a bad pun on the word Zydeco) Along with all this, Slim continued the Texas connection through Joe Ely, playing and touring with Butch Hancock, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, and the recently departed, Jesse Taylor, and visiting Austin Texas to sit in with as many bands as possible. Also, for many years, Slim has guested with Wilko Johnson and his band, on accordion. More recently, Slim has been playing with The Urban Voodoo Machine. Slim's Cyder Co. have a CD - Journey into Cyderspace - produced by Boz Boorer - available direct from Slim. As well as all the music, Slim occasionally plays parts in TV adverts. you can check him out in advert for Vitaminic.com, the internet music company, where he plays the part of a member of a boy band, Sensation Four, who are way past their best.
LUXURY CONDO
The lights go down, the movie starts, a downtown bar illuminated only by the neon from a giant cactus, smoke obscuring all but a fleeting glimpse of the band, seated, intense, hunched over their instruments breathing a life time of bum deals, regrets, lost loves and low life observations into a powerful soup of noir blues.
You can't take your eyes off them lest you recognise your own demons. Ladies and Gentlemen I give you..... Luxury Condo.

If you haven't seen this, and are the least bit interested in pop culture you should immediately download it. The series were originally broadcast on BBCs Channel 4 2005.
Nathan Barley is like a character from Vice Magazine's staff coming to life. Totally void of human emotion living a life of a hipster guerilla-web-club kid. Very funny and equally disturbing. There are rumours of a new season, however, three years make it seem slim.

at St Andrews, but since then she has lost even more weight and is now slimmer than she has ever been.
Prince WIlliam’s girlfriend, one of the world’s most photographed women, works out religiously for at least an hour a day to keep her trim figure.
‘She’s quite figure-conscious and she’s very aware of the fact that the camera adds a good 10lb.
She and her sister Pippa are both quite weight aware and like to be slim.
‘Kate also gets sent a lot of clothes from designers and they are all sample sizes, generally a size six or eight.
‘When Kate was training for the dragon boat race across the Channel last summer, her entire body shape changed and she became a lot more toned.
‘She loved the training sessions and really enjoyed the results of taking lots of exercise. She cycles whenever she can and works out at the gym at Clarence House, sometimes for a couple of hours at a time.
Meanwhile, Pippa, 23, is enjoying this weekend’s V music festival in style.
She has been invited to the VIP area by Alexander Bridgeman, the 28-year-old son of the 7th Earl of Bradford, who is hosting a private party in the grounds of Weston Park, the family’s Staffordshire estate where the festival is held.
‘Plenty of celebs will be there,’ says my source. Both Kate and Pippa are on the VIP list.

Filed under: Storage Seems everyone is coming out with a cheap, do-it-yourself SATA adapter to convert all your extra flash memory cards into a makeshift SSD. This time, we're looking at the 10,000 (about $91) PhotoFast CR-9000. The 9.5-mm tall, 2.5-inch, 3Gbps SATA adapter accommodates up to 6x SDHC cards and should fit into most slim laptops. That's enough slots to make a 192GB SSD (using 6x 32GB cards) for a bargain $900 or about $270 for a 48GB SSD based on a quick calculation of SDHC cards found on-line.

The United States was fretting over the possibility of a sneak attack by those pesky Soviets in 1951, so President Truman announced the launch of CONELRAD, or the Control of Electromagnetic Radiation system of emergency notification. The fear was that Russia might hone in on American radio signals and use them as beacons for their atomic missiles. Under CONELRAD, all radio stations would cease broadcasting after an alert from the White House. Listeners were then urged to tune in to either 640 or 1240 on their AM dials for further information. By 1963, the Soviet Union had switched to ballistic missiles, so CONELRAD was retired and replaced by the Emergency Broadcast System. The EBS was a relay system, with a primary station receiving an official alert from Washington, which would then pass it on to secondary stations. The primary station sent the Alert Tone, which consisted of sine waves of 853 and 960 Hz, and then TV and radio stations across the U.S. automatically stopped local broadcasting and re-broadcast the emergency information being sent from the source. By FCC law, all radio and television stations were required to perform a random “Weekly Transmission Test Of The Attention Signal and Test Script” (“This is only a test. Had this been a real emergency…”).
The EBS was replaced in 1997 by the Emergency Alert Service, which allows broadcast stations, satellite radio, cable systems, DBS systems, participating satellite companies, and other services to receive emergency information automatically, even if their facilities are unattended.

And the rant continues...
As predicted yesterday I missed my connection from JFK to Boston. When I arrived here this morning after a really crappy flight I learned that all morning flights to Boston were booked out so I've only got a confirmed seat for 12:55 p.m. - 6 hours after I was originally supposed to leave JFK!
Of course I got a stand-by ticket for the flight at 8:25 a.m., but that one was full. Now I'm on another stand-by ticket for 9:55 a.m. but I'd say my chances are slimmer than slim. Not even sure whether I should bother with the subsequent stand-bys, I might as well just grab two hours of sleep and be done with it.

I haven't been writing in here much this past week as my trip nears. I guess I've spent most of my computer time reading and answering e-mails pertaining the trip. I'm so excited. I leave tomorrow morning!
Here's what I know so far. My husband and I will fly into LAX in the morning, be driven in a limo to our hotel (a very nice one at that), I pick up a packet with the schedule for the time I'll be there. They've e-mailed schedules to me, but times weren't specified and events could change last minute. So this will be the full picture.
My husband is on his own while there -- he's fine with that (just glad they invited him too!) His brother lives down there and he actually is going to be able to meet up with business clients during our stay.
I have all of tomorrow "off" to rest and relax until we film. I plan to work out in their exercise room (which overlooks an indoor pool that overlooks the even bigger outdoor pool :)). I plan to spend time at the pool too. It's too cold here in the summers for outdoor pools so this will be a treat.
There's a huge mall across from the hotel and I may make my way over there too. I have a few good friends down there and am trying to work out meeting up with at least one of them. I did this last time with my former boss and it was really fun.
On Wednesday, a shuttle will pick us (8 of us) up and take us to a filming studio where we're to have our make-up and hair done in a natural way for a workout, but there will be make-up and hair stylists to complete our look. A wardrobe specialist will help us choose what to wear (we bring 4-6 choices and she's been shopping for us). We'll do a group chat with Debbie (that will be staged and filmed), followed by a Group Demo workout w/Debbie (that will look like a class, I imagine). There will be food available throughout the day and I imagine a catered lunch (that's what they did each day when we filmed the videos). We are shuttled back to our hotel at the end of the day and are free for dinner and the evening.
Thursday will be similar. Once we're at the studio, we'll film a setting where Julie Moran is talking in front and we're exercising in the back. Sounds simple, but it's scheduled to take all day too. At 5:00, we'll all go out to dinner with Debbie (and our guests are invited). We're free that evening (swimming and jacuzzi, I hope).
Another good night's rest in the hotel, then we fly home on Friday.
I can't wait!!!!! Time to finish putting away the groceries, then I'm dying some clothes (a new skirt and pair of shorts I bought and decided not to keep white) and I'll finish packing. TTFN.

The babydoll trend may sound impossible for those of us with a curvier figure, but you can make this trend work with a little extra planning. Instead of a shift that barely covers the thighs, choose a figure-friendly jersey dress that will drape around your shape without obscuring it. Wear slim trousers underneath for a little more coverage or layer a shorter babydoll tunic over a knee-length slim skirt.

Federer could not have scripted this run any better. Granted Ancic was not really Djokovic, but in an hour and 41freaking minutes without even letting Ancic get a sniff at a break point? I mean, after all this is still the quarterfinals of the most prestigious event in tennis. Guys reaching the quarterfinals and beyond are not expected to be demolished so ruthlessly.
While this match again is able to maintain and exceed the grass court averages for Federer, from Halle and beyond, the only worry is the sudden shock awaiting in the finals. With Djokovic gone, the difference, even if Safin is able to win a set, is so ginormous.
With Nadal thrashing Murray in his own home in straights, the final between Federer and him appears inevitable. Will the quality of competition the two have faced here determine the winner? Its quite likely, since the level of tennis in the finals will be far removed from what either one has played so far in the tournament.
Nadal of course has that match I refer to in the semifinals that may level the playing field in terms of the shock to some extent. Still Nadal looks much stronger and determined despite losing one set here, compared to none for Federer.
Remember Hamburg, when Federer did not lose a single set to reach the finals against Nadal, and suddenly couldnt win one? The line up there was quite similar to what Federers gone through here. Of course this is grass and Nadal has dropped a set here. But with this huge win against Murray, a grass court specialist with local fans going ballistic, Nadal has again resurrected himself into a monster pretty close to the dimensions he wore on clay this year, in the eyes of everyone, but more particularly in the eyes, ears, brain and every other organ Federer is in control of.
This win sent a message so strong to Federer and his camp, that it has the potential of rattling Federer even before he faces Nadal - against Safin in the semis. You think theres a slim possibility that Federer may get humiliated again like he did at Roland Garros. From the looks of it, it doesnt appear possible. Why? Because we are privy to only the physical aspects of the two players. The final will be played on a whole new plane called intangibles.
Nadal has already won the first set in that department by thrashing Murray in straight sets at home. Just position yourself in Federers shoes for a moment. Wouldnt you have some level of anxiety and maybe fear against a guy who clearly has gained tremendous ground on grass, has a huge H2H advantage over you AND is just coming off dishing you a bagel in the freaking finals of the tournament you covet the most?
The stage to call this match a challenge I am looking forward to is long over for Federer. Its like a younger, fitter and wiser lion who was sent home last year is back with larger weapons physically and every other . Its not the same for Federer when he faced Roddick in the finals twice. There is a real possibility of losing in the finals this time, unless of course Nadal falters physically.
Both Federer and Nadal have to resist the temptation to cross over to the finals prematurely for obvious reasons. Safin is aware of the position of this match in the history of the tennis world. Can he exploit the so many currents running across the court, to pull off an upset again at a major?
Safin has a better chance of defeating Federer than even coming close against Nadal. Safins camp will be exhorting Safin to attack Federers backhand at every freaking shot including the serve, but on grass thats not a big deal for Federer specially if the ball has no mustard on it - the one Nadal can produce. Safin will be digging deep in his archives to revisit the AO semifinal when he defeated Federer in five sets.
Safin may be exactly where he was before playing Djokovic, without a plane ticket. He may have also had a cab waiting here, if this encounter did not follow that Djokovic match. Safin has suddenly been thrust into the limelight he had surrendered long time ago. Maybe he is here for a reason. Will this be the match with three freaking bagels to finally convince him to hang up the racket, or is this the green light to keep on keeping on and rake in as much money and punani he can before he becomes irrelevant?
Nadal on the other hand has to still get past one of those two lucky jokers battling uselessly for their demise in the next round. Its vital of Nadal to keep up his intensity despite the tomato can scenario to bloat his size even further before he meets Federer in the final.
Can Safin throw a monkey wrench at all this and disrupt the party on July 6th? Theres a very slim chance and that chance has to come from Federer. Safin has no say in it. Like someone was asked what would you do if you found yourself in front of a full grown lion? Answer: Theres nothing for me do. If anything needs to be done, it will be done by the lion.
Nevertheless, Safin deserves credit for letting the fans witness two back to back juicy matches, hope of which was removed after Djokovics exit. Will it live up to that hype is another matter.

O.K. so yesterday was Day 2 of Slim In 6 and I decided that I wasn't going to do the A.M. Yoga program like I did the day before. I want to keep the body guessing. However, I did Slim Limber (a really great stretch program) after I did Start It Up!
Also, I added weights to the work out to give it a little more upper body work. I'm still impressed with the work out Slim in 6 gives me. I can see how it could get a tad repetitive. But you gotta do what you gotta do, right?
Now unfortunately I'm going to be out of town tomorrow, and I might be unable to work out with Slim In 6. So it is up to Allie and I to find away to still get in some exercise. Even if it means taking a walk as a family on the boardwalk and running around in a park. So we'll have to make it our rest day and still work out on Sunday (again like P90X notice that the program is flexible).
Eating will be a little tricky, because we won't be in our normal setting, but I feel with The Abs Diet makes eating out very easy. According to the book you are suppose to make sure you have at least 2 power foods in every meal. We try to make it a goal to have at least 3.
Not sure if I'll have Internet access, so if I don't I will post as soon as I get a chance. Have a good one.
